Nov 2018: Two events in one day for Book Week Scotland. Claire Askew entertained us by reading from her new novel All The Hidden Truths, and Em Strang held a fascinating poetry workshop in the afternoon. A fun day held in a great venue at the Moffat Youth Theatre.
Southlight 19
May 2016: Two of the editors of Southlight magazine, Vivien Jones and Angus MacMillian came to Moffat as we shared new writing and pieces from the magazine.
Crime Inc
May 2016: Crime Inc featuring Moffat Crime Writers came to talk about current and future projects and short pieces of their work. Pictured here are Linda Wright, Mike Craven and Graham Smith.
James Patterson Bookshop Grant
May 2016: We attended a reception in London at Penguin Random House as The Moffat Bookshop was very pleased to be awarded a James Patterson Independent Bookshop Grant. We will use the money to improve shop signage and to allow Moffat and Beattock Primary to invite children’s authors into school.

Stuart Paterson & Hugh McMillan
May 2016: Two of Dumfries & Galloway’s finest were here reading their poetry. Hugh’s new book is MacMillan’s Galloway; a fascinating tour of the area, full of tales about the people and places. Stuart has a new poetry collection published called Border Lines, featuring poems inspired by Galloway and the Solway. We have copies of both books for sale in the shop. Dave Dick was also there providing the tunes. Thanks to everyone for coming along.
Book Week Scotland
November 2015 : We enjoyed two very interesting and popular talks when Janice Galloway and Alistair Moffat came to Moffat for our Book Week Scotland event. Janice’s book is a fantastic short story collection called Jellyfish. Alistair’s book covers the entire history of Scotland from earliest times through to 2015. Thanks to everyone who attended and supported this, we had a great time.
Now Is The Time
October 2015 : Melvyn Bragg enthralled a packed audience at the Moffat House Hotel when he came to talk about his latest novel Now Is The Time. The event organised by Marilyn Elliot was a sell out. We only have a few signed copies left in the shop, so get them while you can..
Eat Sleep Cycle
September 2015 We were delighted to welcome long distance cyclist & author Anna Hughes to Moffat, She stopped by whilst on her Land End to John O’Groats cycling book tour. Eat Sleep Cycle is about an exhausting 4000 mile trip around the coast of Britain. Anna spoke about that trip, giving particular attention to her time cycling around the coast of Dumfries and Galloway on her way back to the border. Copies of Eat Sleep Cycle are available in the shop.
Maxwell’s Mega Mission
August 2015 Dumfries & Galloway authors Jayne Baldwin & Shalla Gray were found in the shop one Saturday afternoon, eating Beltie Bull shaped biscuits and signing copies of their marvelous children’s books. The new one is brilliant and it’s called Maxwell’s Mega Mission. We have copies of all the Curly Tale books in the shop.
Battle Of Britain Anniversary
August 2015 – We were at the GYRE event organised to mark the 75th anniversary Of Hugh Dowding and The Battle Of Britain. Lord Piers Dowding attended along with author Stephen Bungay. His new book is called The Most Dangerous Enemy sold out at the event. If you would like to order one please let us know.
The Looking Glass Girl
June 2015 – Children’s author Cathy Cassidy came to Moffat Academy to talk to the children and to sign copies of her brilliant books. She even held a writer’s workshop for the kids. A great day at the school organised by Tessa Gibbon from Moffat Academy. We have Cathy’s books for sale in the shop.
The Novel Habits Of Happiness
April 2015 – Alexander McCall Smith entertained everyone when he visited Moffat for a chat and afternoon tea. His new book is called The Novel Habits Of Happiness and lots of people went away happy with their brand new signed copies. This event was organised by Moffat Book Events.
